Propeller

Size and Specifications

"15-inch" refers to the propeller diameter. With 1 inch equal to 2.54 centimeters, a 15-inch propeller has a diameter of approximately 38.1 centimeters, belonging to an extremely rare extra-large specification in FPV drones. In the model "DFL-1055", "10" typically represents a blade width of 10 millimeters, and "55" may indicate a pitch of 55 millimeters (parameter definitions may vary by manufacturer, so please refer to the manufacturer's instructions for specifics).

Material and Characteristics

It adopts high-strength carbon fiber composite fiberglass nylon material, with the fiber layers increased by 30% compared to 13-inch propellers to resist the centrifugal force during the rotation of extra-large diameters (when the rotation speed exceeds 3,500 rpm, the centrifugal force can reach 4 times that of 7-inch propellers). The root of the propeller blade is designed with thickened reinforcing ribs, and the edge is frosted to reduce wind noise. The weight of a single propeller is controlled at 25-28g, achieving a balance between lightweight and strength through a hollow honeycomb structure.

Overall Performance of the FPV Drone

Power Performance

Paired with 3008/3506 model ultra-low KV motors (KV value 1,200-1,600) and 100A+ ESCs, the thrust at full throttle can reach 18-20kg, capable of carrying equipment over 1kg (such as RED Komodo cinema cameras + follow-focus systems).

The maximum speed exceeds 200km/h, but due to the extremely large moment of inertia of the propeller, the acceleration time from standstill to full throttle is about 1.8 seconds (only 1.2 seconds for 7-inch propellers), making it more suitable for uniform cruising rather than agile maneuvers.

Flight Stability

It can resist wind up to level 7 (wind speed 13.9-17.1m/s), with the attitude fluctuation range reduced by 30% compared to 13-inch propellers in strong wind environments, suitable for operations at high altitudes (above 3,000 meters) or in harsh coastal weather.

The downwash airflow covers a diameter of more than 1.5 meters. When flying at low altitudes, it is necessary to maintain a distance of more than 2 meters from the ground to avoid a sudden drop in lift (lift decreases by about 20% when the distance from the ground is 1 meter), suitable for flying in open unpopulated areas.

Application Scenarios

In the field of professional film aerial photography and cinematic creation, the 15-inch FPV drone can carry professional cinema cameras like RED and ARRI, as well as heavy-duty gimbals, to complete long-shot tracking in complex terrains such as mountains and canyons. With a single flight endurance of 30-40 minutes (using a 22000mAh 12S battery), it is suitable for documentary and film aerial photography, especially for shots requiring large-scale scene scheduling (such as grassland migrations and urban panoramas).

When used for large-area terrain mapping and infrastructure monitoring, equipped with LiDAR or multispectral cameras, a single flight can cover 5 square kilometers of terrain modeling, with data collection efficiency 4 times that of traditional small drones. It is commonly used for highway inspection, mine slope monitoring, or post-disaster terrain assessment.

In agricultural large-scale plant protection and material transportation scenarios, when equipped with a 5L pesticide tank, the spraying time per mu is only 40 seconds. Combined with RTK centimeter-level positioning, it can achieve precise operations with row error ≤5 centimeters, suitable for 10,000-mu farmland. The lifting module can transport materials below 3kg (such as emergency medicines and small equipment) for material delivery in remote mountainous areas.

In scientific research-level applications, it can carry meteorological sensors or air quality detectors, stably flying at an altitude of 1,000 meters to collect atmospheric turbulence data or industrial park pollution diffusion samples, commonly seen in university atmospheric physics research or environmental protection department monitoring projects.

Precautions

Hard requirements for the power system:

Must use 12S and above lithium batteries (22.2V 18650 battery packs are recommended), paired with 1500W+ chargers to avoid blade stall resonance caused by insufficient voltage.

Motors need to be equipped with active cooling fans (such as 30mm violent fans), and need to stop for 3 minutes to cool down after 10 consecutive minutes of flight to prevent magnetic steel demagnetization.

Flight safety regulations:

The dynamic balance error must be controlled within ≤0.3g (using a high-precision balancer). The vibration of unbalanced 15-inch propellers during rotation will cause frame screws to loosen or even break.

The no-fly zone radius is expanded to 100 meters (debris flight speed exceeds 100m/s), and it is necessary to confirm that there are no people or buildings within 500 meters around before taking off.

Environmental adaptability operations:

In low-temperature environments (≤-15℃), preheat the propellers for 1 minute before taking off. In high-temperature environments (≥45℃), intermittent flight is recommended (fly for 15 minutes and stop for 5 minutes).

At high altitudes (≥2000 meters), reduce the throttle output by 10%-15% to avoid a sudden drop in propeller efficiency due to thin air.
